Buttle Lake Trails Update

Gerry Roberts, volunteer host of the Buttle Lake Info Hut for Strathcona Wilderness Institute, sends his latest report of the most recent conditions from that area of Strathcona Park.

Strathcona Provincial Park - Buttle Corridor and Gold River Road
Trail Conditions as of May 18th, 2012

Trails Off Highway 28
Crest Crags - All areas clear of snow.
Crest Lake Picnic Area - All areas clear of snow.
Crest Mountain Trail - Trail snow covered from 2,800 foot level, windfalls on trail.
Elk River Trail - High risk area after descent to river due to deep snow, avalanche risk, under-flooding, windfalls and washouts.
Elk River View Trail - All areas clear of snow.
Lady Falls Trail - All areas clear of snow.
Kings Peak - Road to trail head is clear of snow and accessible, very little windfall. The snow appears to be at about 1,500 foot level; this trail has not been checked for windfalls or washouts.

Off Western Mine Road
Lupin Falls Trail - Parking lot, trail and picnic area all clear of snow and windfalls.
Auger Point Trail - Parking lot and trail clear of snow and windfalls.
Karst Creek Trail - Limited access due to extreme windfall situation, only partially cleared: Note no bridge at creek crossing.
Shepherd Creek and Wild Ginger Trails - All areas clear of snow.
Flower Ridge Trail - The snow starts at about 2,300 foot level; this trail not yet checked for windfalls.
Price Creek Trail - No information available; this trail has many windfalls and washouts, it is not maintained.
Bedwell Lake Trail - No access trail head and parking: Jim Mitchell Lake road not ploughed and lower areas clear of snow have not been graded and extremely rough after the first two kilometres; difficulty even with four wheel drive and high ground clearance.
Lower Myra Falls Trail - Access road has been graded, the creek is very high due to snow melt, great care is needed at the falls.
Phillips Ridge Trail - Trail appears to be snow covered from about the 2,800 foot level; this trail not checked for windfalls.
Upper Myra Falls Trail - Difficult to access due to very high snowbank off road. Trail snow covered; this trail not checked for windfalls.
Tennent Lake Trail/Mount Myra - The trail appears to be snow covered from the 1,500 foot level; this trail not checked for windfalls. Be warned, this trail passes through a high avalanche areas.
