Strathcona Centennial Expedition: Film Screening

Strathcona Wilderness Institute is excited to host a screening of the Strathcona Centennial Expedition by Phil Stone - a grand adventure with slides & video of the July 2010 journey through Strathcona Park . This 300 km journey retraced the 1910 expedition through the mountainous heart of Vancouver Island which resulted in the creation of Strathcona Park as the first BC Provincial Park

BC Parks are planning events and celebrations throughout British Columbia in 2011 to mark a century of Provincial Parks. The Comox Valley has a unique connection to this important chapter of BC history as a gateway to Strathcona, the first of our parks and the ending point for both the 1910 Discovery and 2010 Centennial expeditions.

Dude, Where's My Building??

Last summer, several visitors to the Wilderness Centre said they hadn't even noticed the new building when they had visited Paradise Meadows during the 2009/2010 winter season...

This photo taken yesterday explains why!

The winter of 2010/2011 might even surpass last year's snowfall which was the 2nd highest on record from the past 30+ years....
